Annual medical surveillance programmes

Periodic examinations across your employee register, tracked against each baseline — the OHS Act requirement run as a managed annual programme, not a scramble before an audit.

Surveillance is a trend, not a snapshot

The legal value of annual surveillance is the comparison. One reading proves nothing; a hearing threshold moving year on year is what flags an exposure problem while it is still fixable — and what shows an inspector that the programme is doing its job.

What the programme covers

How the annual cycle runs

  1. Register review Your employee register mapped to job categories and the surveillance each one requires.
  2. Annual schedule Assessment days planned across the year — in one block or spread by department.
  3. Assessments Each employee reviewed against their own baseline, not against a generic norm.
  4. Compliance pack Certificates plus a consolidated register, ready for an OHS Act audit without assembly.

Common questions

Is annual surveillance a legal requirement?

Where employees are exposed to a listed hazard, the Occupational Health and Safety Act requires periodic medical surveillance. Which employees and how often depends on the hazard — that mapping is the first step of the programme.

We have never done this. Can you start from scratch?

Yes. Where there is no baseline on file, the first round establishes one and every subsequent year is compared against it.

What happens if an employee is found unfit?

The certificate states the restriction and the reasoning. Redeployment or accommodation is then an employer decision, made on a documented clinical basis.

Do you keep the records?

Employee health records are maintained by the practice, with your consolidated register held on your side for audit purposes.
